Meet the real heroes of Bengaluru

Hi VASANTHI

Janaagraha is celebrating! Within two months of its inception, our Jaagte Raho! campaign, that aims to encourage voter registration and turnout, has been able to get a whopping 2000 people in the city to volunteer for its cause.

The energy that moves us today would not have been possible without the help of our Area Voter Mitras, the stars of our campaign. These are the people who have taken out take out time from their busy work schedule, from their family, and from their entertainment to go door-to-door. These are the people who are working day-to-day towards to make their neighbours more responsible citizens and make their governments more accountable. These are the real heroes of our democracy.

READ THEIR AMAZING STORIES!

"I signed up to be an AVM not knowing why I got myself into it."
The demands of a small kid and a job kept AVM Aparna Murlidhar limited to her family.  Her becoming an AVM has made her reach out to her neighbourhood and community. In a month, she was able to submit a whopping 190 registration forms for Ward 112, Polling Booth 19 to the Assistant Electoral Registration Office, Ms N Sudha. On the way, she also discovered her neighbours and made some friends. Read her complete story here.

"After our training, the AVMs at Gunata Vihar RWA came together and devised ways to rid the voter list of errors and also enroll new voters."
In the month of January, in spite of initial hurdles, AVM M. Saravanan reached out and encouraged residents in his polling booth to register to vote and correct details in the voter list, even though it meant sourcing forms and giving them to each person one by one.  He managed to get 151 forms for inclusion of name, 127 forms for correction of particulars and 116 forms for deletion of names. A whopping 383 corrections to the voter list of his polling booth. Read his amazing story here.

"I spent the first weekend without doing any work wondering what the response would be from the people."
Though his beginning was slow, AVM Ananda Thirtha of Part No 98 (Basavangudi Constituency), got over the initial hesitation of approaching strangers and realized that leadership is all about people. He managed to enroll 15 students who had just turned 18 and consolidated 60 inclusions in the voter list, which according to him is full of mistakes. Read about his experiences here.
Inspired? Forward the story of these star citizens to your family and friends. If you want to do something for your city, sign up to become an Area Voter Mitra yourself.

Regards,

Vandana Krishnan
