===================

It is recuperating and just ripe on its road to reconstruction. Belying predictions, the Indian economy grew by a significant 7.9 per cent in the second quarter of this fiscal, essentially due to a good showing by the industry and the services sector. A prudent and pragmatic stimulus package in the first quarter by the government resulted in revival of domestic demand to propel a remarkable 8% growth in the second quarter in which manufacturing sector swelled by 9.2% and most admirably the mining industry garnered a consolidation by 9.5%. The performance of CMB in the back drop of challenging circumstances is indeed laudable as we have been able to surpass budgeted number of equipment sales and maintain the top-line as per projection.
Consequent to the above credible indicators of economic recovery, the government has astutely announced gradual rollback of stimulus packages from the 3rd quarter onwards that in other words signify revitalization of funds to enable the nation pursue its dream of accelerated sustained growth of infrastructure especially in road, power and mining sectors. A vista of opportunities in magnum magnitude would now be present in the horizon for CMB to tame and explore. However, as there will be strict fiscal discipline and formidable global players in the fray, the success of CMB to seize the most would axle on our philosophy of overall excellence and instant adaptability to changes both in its quantum and suddenness in a dynamic future business scenario.
At CMB it is imperative for everyone to be alert for the first signs of change concerning our business. Change will descend on everyone equally but our ability to realize it faster than others and acclimatize instantly will offer us the superlative edge in the months to come. Let us exhibit all round flexibility as an organization in terms of our processes, business and policies to take on change in the right stride. The biggest enemy of future success is past success. It often breeds complacency that may blind us to the early signals from the environment that something is going wrong. But when the parameters for success change, doing routine things may or may not continue to lead to success. To anticipate change even when things are going right is what distinguishes a vibrant organisation from an apathetic unit. Introduction of superior product specification, instill greater reliability and rationalisation of spare parts perception amidst our customers may constitute our all encompassing strategic response to change that also represents an opportunity lurking in disguise.
In our endeavor to stand on the podium of overall market leadership we need to stretch ourselves to the maximum and use all our potential. We must keep renewing as it prepares us to sense change and be ready for it when it comes. An introspection of what new skills and competencies will be needed and to work on them before it becomes necessary will have a natural advantage. Conceptualization of the Skill Inventory Assessment programme for service, parts and sales personnel is an opportune move in this direction. The greatest benefit of our education lies not only in what we have learnt, but in working how to learn. In the world of tomorrow, only those individuals and organizations will succeed who have mastered the art of rapid learning, un-learning and re-learning.
Lastly, in spite of all the change around us, what we will never change is our core values. The accomplishment of CMB is as much manifested in its products and service profile as it is for the integrity, moral, transparency and loyalty portrayed by the people who manage it. This unique value system championed by L&T is unparalleled in the industry and all of us must shoulder the solemn responsibility to prevent its erosion.
Success requires no explanation and failure permits none. Let's rekindle all the above attributes and Play To Win. Wishing you and your family Merry X-Mas and a great New Year ahead.
