Dear Govardhan,

The turtles need you! The Dhamra port in Orissa not only threatens the endangered Olive Ridley Sea turtles, it is also being constructed on forest land without permission from the Central government!

Based on letters issued by its own officials, a case was filed against the Ministry of Environment and Forest and the Orissa government in October last year for ignoring an ongoing violation of the Forest Conservation Act, 1980.[1] Till now, neither have filed a response before the Supreme Court’s Central Empowered Committee.

Are they hiding from the truth or bowing to powerful corporate interests?

Can you sign this petition telling environment minister Jairam Ramesh to take a stand on the violation of the Forest Conservation Act?

The petition says: "Jaago Re Jairam Ramesh! Take a stand and make your Ministry’s position known on the Dhamra forest act violation."

Located near the Gahirmatha and Bitharkanika Protected Areas, the Dhamra port project poses a threat to the environment and endangered species like the Olive Ridley Sea turtle and saltwater crocodile.

The ministry is answerable to us and cannot ignore blatant legal violations. Last year, Ramesh held public consultations and promised to strengthen laws to protect our coastal environment. He now needs to match his words with action!

Sign the petition and ask Jairam Ramesh to make his ministry more transparent:

Thanks a billion!
